Privacy policy
Last updated November 5, 2026
The short version
- ✅ We collect what you give us to run the site, and nothing more.
- ✅ You choose who sees each post.
- ✅ We never sell your information and never show ads.
- ✅ We never handle your money; donations happen on the charity's site.
- ✅ You can delete your posts or your whole account.
What we collect
When you sign up: your name, email address, a username and a password. We never store your password itself, only a scrambled (hashed) version we can check it against. If you sign in with Google or Facebook, they give us your name, email address and profile photo; we never see your password for those accounts.
What you choose to add: a profile photo, cover photo, bio, links to your social accounts, favorite charities, and your posts, photos, comments, High Fives, RSVPs, monthly donation schedules, homies, follows and group messages.
Your area: if you enter a ZIP code or tap “Use my location”, we save an approximate location (rounded to about half a mile) and the city name. We use it to show nearby events and posts. Other people only ever see the city.
Donations: only what you type in, such as the charity and an amount. Donations happen on the charity's own website, so we never see or store card or bank details.
Security records: when someone tries to log in, we keep a scrambled code made from the username typed and the device's internet (IP) address, so we can stop people guessing passwords. These are deleted after a day.
How we use it
- To run the site: show your profile and posts, build your feed, send notifications and reminders, and post your monthly donations on the day you picked.
- To show things near you, like volunteer events and people in your area.
- To send the emails you need: password resets, group invites, and group messages you've chosen to get by email.
- To keep the site safe: stopping break-in attempts, and removing posts or accounts that break the rules.
Who can see what
Anyone, even without an account: your name, username, photos, bio, city, social links, favorite charities, and posts you shared with 🌎 Everyone.
Your homies and followers: posts you shared with 👥 Just my homies and followers.
Only you: posts you marked 🔒 Only me, your email address, your exact saved location and your settings.
Group members only: a group, its member list and its messages.
Remember that anyone who can see a post could take a screenshot of it, so share accordingly.
Your choices and rights
- Change or remove your profile details, photos, area, favorite charities and posts at any time in Settings or on the post itself.
- Choose who sees each post when you share it.
- Turn off group emails for any group on that group's page.
- Get a copy of your information, or delete your account: email hello@helpneverhurts.com from the address on your account. Deleting your account removes your profile and everything you've posted.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you have an account. When you delete a post or your account, it's removed from the site straight away and from our backups within 30 days. Password reset links expire after an hour, and login security records after a day.
Keeping it safe
Everything is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, passwords are hashed, and repeated wrong passwords lock an account for a few minutes. No website can promise perfect security, so please use a password you don't use anywhere else.
Children
Help Never Hurts is for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has an account, email hello@helpneverhurts.com and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For big changes, we'll also let members know on the site before they take effect.
